Whether you will find AMCap useful depends on what you want to do with it.

AMCap captures video from your webcam and stores it on your hard drive, in either MPEG2 or AVI, as long as you have the necessary codecs installed on your machine.

When you view the footage later, you can add special effects, such as transparency, graphic overlay and alpha-blending. You can also take screen shots when you view the footage.

If what you want to do is record your webcam and view it later, AMCap may be what you’re looking for.

If you want to monitor your webcam on your PC, you’re not looking for AMCap. You’re also not looking for AMCap if you want to take screenshots from your webcam automatically at specified intervals of time.

In other words, if you want, in any way, to use your webcam for security purposes or for remote monitoring, of your children, of your front door of your bird feeder, AMCap is not the program that will do it.

What it will do is record video to your hard drive, if you have a purpose for doing that, and apparently it will do it well.

There are a couple of things to keep in mind if you do have a purpose for recording video to your hard drive.

First, you must have the necessary codecs installed for the type of video you want to record. You can record in MPEG2 or AVI.

Second, video files take huge amounts of disk space, so if you use AMCap to record video from your webcam to your hard drive, you should make sure you have enough room available. Recording to an extra hard drive, either internal or external, is probably your best bet for not filling up your main hard drive with video files if you choose to use this program.
